Washington, D.C. – The Republican Attorneys General Association released the following statement regarding Josh Stein’s hypocritical statement yesterday morning to the North Carolina Sheriff's Association:
"Josh Stein, an extreme Harvard radical who relies on his father’s fortune and rich out of state liberals to bankroll his political ambitions, is the textbook definition of a hypocrite,” said Scott Will, Executive Director of RAGA. “Stein says he cannot be bought and does not care about special interests, but fails to mention he has taken money from the biggest liberal campaign donor in America, far-left environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer. Stein whines about money in politics, but has no problem with his father giving the North Carolina Democratic Party $500,000 to help his campaign.
“No matter what hypocritical charges Josh Stein makes, RAGA will continue to aggressively support Buck Newton because North Carolina needs an attorney general who is in touch with normal people, will stand up for law enforcement and defend the rule of law.”
“The father of Democratic attorney general candidate Josh Stein contributed $500,000 to the N.C. Democratic Party in early March, according to a recently filed campaign disclosure report. The contribution from Adam Stein, a prominent civil rights attorney who lives in Chapel Hill, was by far the largest given to the state Democratic Party in the second quarter of 2016.” (Patrick Gannon, “Candidate’s father gives $500,000 to state Democrats,” News & Observer, 07/19/2016)
“They know I cannot be bought. I will not do the bidding of the special interest of the left or the right.” - Josh Stein (Special Interest Stein's Hypocrisy - Audio, Annual Training Conference of the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association, Sunset Beach, 7-26-2016)
“I want you all to know that as your attorney general, I’m not going to lease out the office or its authority to the special interests, whether they are of the right or the left.” – Josh Stein (Special Interest Stein's Hypocrisy, Haywood Democrat Event, Waynesville, NC, 7/20/16)
In the second quarter of 2016, billionaire liberal activist Tom Steyer contributed the maximum $5,100 to Stein’s campaign. (Josh Stein for Attorney General - 2016 Second Quarter Disclosure Report, Filed 7/12/16)
