(January 5, 2016) WASHINGTON, DC – Today the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) Chairman Bill Schuette (MI) released the following statement in response to President Obama's announcement to use executive action to implement restrictions to the 2nd Amendment:
"As the chief law enforcement officers of our respective states, attorneys general are deeply concerned about public safety and the impact of gun violence on our neighborhoods.
With today’s announcement, however, the President is ignoring the separation of powers grounded in our Constitution by bypassing the legislative process. The people's representatives in Congress rejected these proposals, yet the President is doing what he has done time and time again, which is to ignore the will of the American people and rule by executive fiat.
As Attorneys General, we believe in the rule of law, and we believe the people deserve a President who respects the Constitution, rather than end runs it."
