New Mexico AG Balderas Silent on Skyrocketing Crime Rate in Albuquerque

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new poll released today shows that nearly seven in 10 likely Albuquerque voters identify the crime rate as the most important issue facing their community. Sadly, these perceptions are not based in fantasy, as serious crimes like robbery and theft are on the rise.

The Albuquerque Journal reports:

“In seven years, armed robberies more than doubled in Albuquerque, from 940 in 2010 to more than 1,957 in 2016, the largest number since 1996. Albuquerque also ranked No. 1 among U.S. metro areas in vehicle thefts per capita in 2016, with more than 10,000 vehicle thefts reported.”

Yet Democrat Attorney General Hector Balderas, the state’s top law enforcement officer, stays silent as this problem continues to grow. Maybe he’s too busy endorsing his Democrat friends for elected office, a practice which could very well set his office up for a conflict of interest down the road. Balderas should focus on keep New Mexicans safe instead of promoting a political agenda for himself and his friends.
