ICYMI: Republican Erika Harold mounts bid against Democratic AG Lisa Madigan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Erika Harold, an Urbana attorney and former Miss America, announced her bid to challenge Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan in the 2018 General Election. Harold, who has never held public office, released a campaign ad in which she promises to change the status quo.

RAGA Chairman and Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge released the following statement, saying that Harold will fight for all Illinoisans. "Erika Harold has been a champion for those who need a voice: from children who have faced bullying in school to prisoners seeking a second chance to turn around their lives. She isn't beholden to the Springfield special interests or the Chicago political machine. Instead, she'll be an Attorney General for every Illinois citizen regardless of where they come from or to who their family is connected. I'm incredibly excited to support Erika's run for Attorney General and I look forward to joining her on the campaign trail."

Chicago Tribune reports

"A former Miss America on Tuesday is expected to announce a Republican bid for attorney general for the chance to challenge four-term Democrat Lisa Madigan.

"'Today in Illinois, it's nearly impossible to find opportunity and live out your dreams. Instead, career politicians have made it a nightmare for too many families in our state," Erika Harold says in a two-minute video announcing her candidacy.

"'You deserve a state government that works for the people, not the powerful," says Harold, of Urbana. "Changing the status quo is never easy. And I need your help to do it. Together, let's defeat the special interests and send the politicians packing.'"
